Getting to know DDM Students Series #001 - Fifi

The first student we are going to feature for the "Getting to know DDM students Series" is Year 1 student, Fieana Alfiefififarhana, better known as "Fifi" to her circle of friends.

Here's what the sporty and creative Fifi has to share about herself:

Hi Fifi, can you give a little greeting to the readers here please? :)
Hi, I am Fifi, Year 1 Diploma in Digital Media (DDM) student!

How did you come to choose SP and DDM as your course in polytechnic?
My former secondary school was Dunearn Secondary School and my favourite subject then was Mathematics and Chemistry. I graduated from my Secondary School in 2007 and enrolled in SP's School of Chemical and Life Sciences taking Diploma in Biotechnology (DBT) in 2008. I did not do well in that course as I had no interest in my studies and I prefer to design.

So I took the courage to do something: I withdrew from DBT in 2010 and went for what I really love - a course that allows me to be creative and do lots of designing!

In 2011, my dream came true.  I was enrolled once more as a SP student, but this time, to the Diploma in Digital Media (DDM) through Direct Admissions Exercise (DAE)!

Describe yourself with THREE adjectives

I am a loud, happy and crazy girl who loves to make my friends laugh. I am a very friendly person and know many friends from all over SP as I have participated actively in various camps.   I am not a mugging type of person, in fact, in my free time, I sign up for all kinds of activities, e.g. I was a horror artiste in Resorts World Sentosa's Halloween Night last year!

My role in the USS Halloween Horror Nights
Head on the Table in 'Vengence of the Matriarch' Peranakan Haunted House

What are the things you love to do most?

I love to rockclimb, drink coffee, take photographs and do digital designing.

My CCA is SP Rock Climbers, whereby rock climbing gyms have been my favourite playgrounds.

I drink iced milk coffee almost everyday.

Since the moment I bought my first Canon DSLR 60D, I have been doing digital photography.

In fact, my all-time past-time since Secondary 1 is digital designing using Adobe Photoshop. I started with Adobe Photoshop CS2 in Secondary school and currently using CS5.

What do you think are your strengths?
My strengths are digital designing, rock climbing and handling young kids.

I have been working at an education centre as a part-time student care teacher in 2008 till present. Working with young hyperactive kids made me forget about all the stress and academic pressure in school and of course, after clocking out from work, back to reality!

As for digital designing, I would randomly create something whenever I get the inspiration or have time.  Here are some of my favourite works:

I took about 7 hours to do this.

What is your current ambition?
My current ambition is to work as a web designer or any digital design industry like designing prints on stationaries or mugs, magazine industry and freelancing.

What do you want to be in life, if you could do ANYTHING?!
What I really want to do is to be myself and make everyone around me happy. After all, apart from academic life, social life is important too!

Fifi, can you share with us a few things that inspire / inspired you?
I am inspired by lessons learnt in my previous course. Application through DAE is not easy as JAE applicants have higher priority than JAE. After learning from my past experiences that I have to love what I am doing to do well, I want to overcome all challenges and setbacks in DDM that I failed to do so previously. Not letting academic history repeat itself again, I inspire to do well to my very best.

One particular person I am really inspired by is my senior, Delconi Quek whom had graduated from DDM with a GPA of almost 4.0. If it is possible for him to achieve an almost perfect GPA, everyone else can too.

Launching of the DiXM Bites!

One of the important factors that make poly fun is being surrounded by great classmates / coursemates.

But school is so hectic sometimes, we may not have time to catch up with too many of our classmates / coursemates other than those we regularly hang out with.

Starting from today, on a regular basis, we are going to feature a DDM student from Year 1-Year 3, sharing with you his/ her distinct personality, dreams and aspirations.

With this, we hope to show you, how each and everyone of you, is special in your own way, and how together, each of us, with our own strengths and unique characteristics can make poly life really a wonderful experience!

Here's a preview of the first student we are going to feature for this series.  She is one spiky gal who lives her life to the fullest, so do watch out for her in the inaugural issue of "DIxM Bites"!
